The Beginning

Chowringhee High School was founded by Mrs. Kumudini Mehrotra & Ms. Meera Singh in 1964 as a Kindergarten School. Under their able guidance the school grew upto the Primary Level i.e. from Nursery to Class V. Gradually the Secondary Level was added in 1986 and from "Kindergarten" our school metamorphosed into a "High" school. Over the years, our school has progressed substantially and has "carved" a name of its own.

Our Inspiration

Great human beings are those who dedicate their lives for the benefit of others. They become great through hard work, perseverance and self sacrifice. They endure great hardships to selflessly work for their fellow beings. Hence they not only become torch bearers but also fabricate a path for others to follow. Their life becomes symbolic and an inspiration for others. One of our beloved founders, Ms. Meera Singh was such a saint in disguise. For more than three decades, with unflinching zeal, devotion and unceasing toil she illuminated the lives of thousands from ‘darkness to light’.

From a young age, Ms. Meera Singh aspired with a noble mission to bear the torchlight of learning. This opportunity came her way when she joined the school in 1964. Being resourceful, innovative and pragmatic in her teaching methods, Ms. Meera Singh took over as Teacher-in-Charge. Ms. M. Singh was with this Institution right from its birth and it is only due to her vision that CHS has managed to "bloom and grow". Due to her selfless service, she was honoured with the "Life Time Achievement Award" at "The Telegraph School Awards For Excellence" in 2003. She worked with the school till the last day of her life and left for her heavenly abode on 2nd March, 2007.

The Progress

Due to the persistent efforts by our teachers and students, our school has risen from anonymity to limelight. Initially there were 150 students and 7 teachers. Today the school has 400 students and 20 teachers. The school had very basic amenities but with each passing year, the infrastructure and facilities have been expanded and developed which enables our school to provide a sound education in keeping with today's times. The students are encouraged to take part in various co-curricular activities. With the beginning of our second unit, we have added in many new features to our aims and objectives. BLOOMING BUDS - a montessori School has been started in place of our Kindergarten Section since April - 2008 to give the kids a great start to their pre-primary education and build a strong base of academics for them. Under the able guidance of our Principal. Ms. Harshita Dasani, Blooming Buds Montessori is imbibing talents among the kids through a state of art of listening and speaking skills as well as the 3 'R's - Reading, Writing and Arithmetic and learning by playing. .
